Do you know someone who loves coffee? If so, they will probably enjoy receiving coffee as a gift. There are lots of excellent whole-bean Colombian coffees that can make wonderful gifts for coffee lovers. Here are some tips to remember if you give Colombian whole-bean coffee as a gift.

Go with a light or medium roast.

Coffee can be roasted in a light, medium, or dark color. Everyone has their own preferences, but when it comes to Colombian coffee, light or medium roast tends to be your best option. Colombian coffee tends to have a lot of subtle, fruity notes that get scorched away when the beans are roasted too dark. These flavors are better preserved in light and medium roasts. Plus, dark roast coffee is a bit niche, and some coffee drinkers find it to be unappealing. Most people like medium and light roast coffees better, making them better options when you are giving a gift.

Stick with a smaller bag.

You might see some huge, 2 or 3-pound bags of coffee beans. In general, these are best left for restaurants and coffee shops. It will take the average coffee drinker a long time to go through that much coffee, and it may lose a lot of its nuance by the time they do. This is especially the case with fruitier coffees, like most Colombian coffees. An 11-ounce, 12-ounce, or 1-pound bag is a good size to give as a gift.

Look for a pamphlet on the coffee plantation.

In Colombia, there are many different small coffee plantations, each of which produces its own coffee with different qualities and characteristics. Someone who enjoys coffee will often enjoy reading and learning about these coffee plantations. So, if you get any cards or pamphlets with the coffee you buy, include them with your gift. You could even ask the coffee seller if they could give you any other materials. Sometimes, they may have brochures and materials behind the counter that they only give customers upon request.

If you can't get a pamphlet from the coffee plantation, consider including a book or article about Colombian coffee in your gift instead. Your recipient can read the book as they sip their favorite brew.

A bag of whole-bean Colombian coffee can make a lovely gift, especially if you follow the tips above. Talk to a coffee retailer in your local area to find out more.
